We at OBP Certify want to help, by certifying the collection of plastic bottles that are at-risk of being ocean-bound. Plastic bottles made with PET or RPET can be recycled and repurposed into new reusable products. Once these plastic bottles reach the ocean, it becomes extremely costly and very challenging to recover. We want to certify the collection of at-risk plastic bottles before it reaches our oceans. 

At the end of 2016, the United Nations reported that at least 800 species worldwide were affected by ocean plastic. It is estimated that up to 13 million metric tons of plastic end up in the oceans each year. Doing devastating harm to sea life and this plastic, in turn, ends up in the seafood we eat. 
By certifying the collection of plastic bottles that are at-risk of being ocean-bound we can help in the prevention and reduction of ocean pollution. Saving Fish, seabirds, sea turtles and other marine mammals along with saving our coral reefs. Scientist predicts the weight of the ocean plastics will exceed the combined weight of all the fish in the seas by 2050. 

By identifying at-risk ocean-bound plastic bottles and certifying their origin, and proximity to waters feeding into the ocean and validating and certifying their use for reusable products helps us cut down fossil fuel, hydrocarbons and lowers carbon emissions.
